TORONTO – Five things to watch in the Canadian business world in the coming week:
BMO Results
BMO Financial Group will release its third quarter results on Tuesday, the last of the six major Canadian banks to report results for the three-month period. Worries about the economy and rising loan loss provisions were the dominant trend until the big banks released their results.
Couche-Tard Results
Alimentation Couche-Tard will release its first quarter results after market close Tuesday, followed by a conference call with analysts Wednesday morning. The company has been identified as a potential buyer based on what Suncor Energy Inc., which is conducting a strategic review of its Petro-Canada gas stations, decides to do.
Economic report
Statistics Canada will release gross domestic product figures for June and the second quarter as a whole on Wednesday. A preliminary estimate from the agency for June suggests real gross domestic product rose 0.1% for the month, boosted by the construction, manufacturing, accommodation and food service sectors.
Laurentian Bank Results
Laurentian Bank will release its third quarter results and hold a conference call with analysts. In the second quarter, the bank reported its most profitable quarter since 2018, helped by strength in commercial banks and capital markets, combined with a focus on cost management.
door-to-door sales
August home sales figures from the Calgary Real Estate Board are due Thursday, while the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver is expected to release its numbers on Friday. Home sales in Canada slowed as higher mortgage rates increased the cost of borrowing.
This report from The Canadian Press was first published on August 28, 2022.
