TORONTO – Five things to watch in the Canadian business world in the coming week:
Economic report
Statistics Canada will release its gross domestic product figures for March and the first quarter as a whole on Tuesday. The agency’s first estimate for March pointed to a 0.5% gain for the month, following a 1.1% increase in February.
Announcement of interest rates
The Bank of Canada will make its interest rate announcement on Wednesday. Economists generally expect the central bank to raise its key interest rate target by half a percentage point to 1.5%. Bank of Canada Deputy Governor Paul Beaudry is scheduled to deliver a speech and hold a press conference on Thursday.
Laurentian Bank Results
Laurentian Bank of Canada will release its second quarter results and hold a conference call with financial analysts on Wednesday morning. The bank has been scrambling to reorganize its retail business as part of a major turnaround plan.
door-to-door sales
Home sales figures for some of Canada’s largest cities are due this week. Calgary is expected to release its May sales results on Wednesday, followed by Greater Vancouver on Thursday. Montreal and Toronto are expected to release their results on Friday.
Lululemon Results
Lululemon Athletica Inc. will release its first quarter results after the markets close and will hold a conference call with financial analysts on Thursday. The retailer said last month that it plans to double its 2021 revenue by 2026.
