TORONTO-

Five things to watch in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Bank earnings

Royal Bank of Canada will be the first of Canada’s major banks to say how it fared in its first-quarter earnings when it reports results on Thursday. CIBC and National Bank will release their first quarter results on Friday.

Loblaw Results

Loblaw Companies Ltd., the parent company of Loblaws and Shoppers Drug Mart, will release its fourth quarter results on Thursday. The grocery industry has faced challenges due to supply chain issues, inflationary pressures and a tough labor market.

Teak results

Teck Resources Ltd. will release its fourth quarter results on Thursday before the start of trading and will hold a conference call with financial analysts. The company said last month that its fourth-quarter coal sales were lower than expected and warned that COVID-19 was driving up costs and could disrupt production.

Maple Leaf Revenue

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. will release its fourth quarter results and hold a conference call with financial analysts. The company said in November it was reassessing its plant-based food investment strategy after a significant downturn in the category.

Onex Results

Onex Corp. will hold a conference call with financial analysts to discuss its fourth quarter results on Friday. The private equity investment firm said its third-quarter earnings rose 20% from a year earlier, helped by its asset management business.
